Description
This is a large sheet of paper with notes on posters about philanthropy and the welfare state. This is largely in blue pen, with a note in green saying, "red rag pamphlets, and women and the welfare state 1974." There are storyboards and sketches in black pen on the right of the poster there are drawings of magazine covers, an image of a young girl with the caption 'can't you see yourself using mansion choice?' and another image of a woman sat next to a toilet, with the text reading, 'It's a dreadful shame..bleach can't remove limescale but Harpic does.' This is written and drawn on the back of a 'Solidarity with the Iranian masses' poster.
The Poster Collective was a collective formed in 1971 at the Slade School of Art, a group formed to produce posters in a coherent visual style, initially responding to the 1972 Miners' Strike, the Vietnam war, and civil rights and anti-colonial struggles in Northern Ireland.
Throughout their active period in the 1970s-1980s, Poster Collective works also focused on anti-racist organising, African decolonial armed resistance, and women's equality. The group was not-for-profit, creating posters for educational purposes using a variety of hand printing techniques.
