Description
Paddington Printshop was a graphic art and printmaking centre active in west London between 1975 and 1989. The Printshop worked collaboratively with members of local organisations and campaigns to create over 400 poster designs, and thousands of leaflets. The printshop was active in the 70's and 80's, producing posters on a wide range of political issues, including for educational purposes. The group was not-for-profit and used a variety of hand-printing techniques to create their posters. This is a very large red, green and yellow poster with black text. These are the Rastafarian colours. The title of the poster says, "Rastafarian Womens Organisation presents fundraising dance." There is a drawing outline of the African continent, with pictures of children inside the line drawing. The text inside says "In support of our Childrens Summer Project. Sat June 1982." The remaining text reads, "Featuring Abacush S&G Dancers, Frederick Williams (poet), Sounds by Jah Shaka. The Factory,
Chippenham Mews, W9, Buses 18, 28, 31, 36, Price £4. Ital food & bar." Rastafari is a religious and political movement that began in Jamaica in the 1930s. This is a screenprinted poster.
