Description
A newspaper from 25 June 1926, documenting Lydia Aspinall's election as a magistrate in Heywood.

Lydia Ann Aspinall (3/9/1875-17/3/1955) was born in Stalybridge, and lived in Heywood where she became a textile worker, a trade union activist for weavers unions including the Heywood Weavers Association and the Weavers, Winders and Reelers Association. In 1925, she participated in a trip of British women trade unionists to the Soviet Union to observe women's work and roles in work places there, assessing possible ways Soviet practices could improve workers welfare in British factories. In 1926 she became a Magistrate.

Aspinall collected an extensive archive of photos and written material during the Soviet Union trip, which is also held at PHM as part of the Lydia Aspinall Collection.
