"I was tortured by Mugabe's Thugs poster" [NMLH.2004.41.7.18]
Description
OutRage! was a queer direct action group formed in May 1990 and active until 2011. Its aims were to assert the human rights of LGBTQIA people; to fight homophobia, discrimination and violence; and to affirm rights to sexual freedom and self-determination. This is a plain white poster with black text reading "I WAS TORTURED BY MUGABE'S THUGS" The poster addresses Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwean president at the time, who was accused of torturing gay rights activists in Zimbabwe. He was confronted by OutRage! during diplomatic visits to Europe. The OutRage! logo is at the bottom of the poster.
