CRUISEWATCH CRUISE CONVOY VEHICLE SPOTTERS GUIDE
Date
1980?
Description
A4 pamphlet printed in black and white titled "Cruisewatch - Cruise Convoy Vehicle Spotters Guide". The 4 pages show photographs of various vehicles with text descriptions, such as "Launcher - 8 wheel drive, tyre tread, camouflage which has clearly visible light coloured patches and no number plate. Important, note how many you see and whether the back is solid or floppy under the cover."
Multiple military bases were used by the UK and US militaries for housing cruise nuclear missiles during the 1980s. Protesters from peace camps at RAF Greenham Common, Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), and others would report on vehicle movements, blockade roads and form human chains to stop the vehicles transporting the missiles, a protest action known as 'Cruisewatch'. In 1987, following the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces treaty, the cruise missiles were removed from Greenham between 1989 and 1991, with the US Air Force (USAF) leaving in 1992.
