Description
A purple booklet with a picture of a hand flinging blank sheets of paper into a blue sky. The booklet title is 'Not worth the paper. The EU Referendum Deal'.

This booklet was created by the UK Independence Party (UKIP) following the 2016 EU membership referendum, in which Britain narrowly voted to leave the European Union (EU). It was written by then party leader Nigel Farage. Negotiations following this result took several years, and pro-Leave factions including UKIP viewed this as an attempt to ignore the results and keep the UK in the EU. When the deal between the UK government and the European Union was announced, pro-leave politicians criticised some of the terms, such as keeping the same regulations on human rights and standards for goods as too close to remaining in the EU.

UKIP is a right wing Eurosceptic political party promoting British nationalism and isolationism. UKIP was founded in 1993, and was one of the first parties to call for Britain to leave the European Union. Their political platform targets the white working class with a focus on restricting immigration, and treating the existence of Muslims in the UK as a problem threatening British society. Their social policies are also against LGBTQIA+ rights, pro capital punishment, and against human rights legislation. UKIP is opposed by anti-fascist groups, and much of the political and media spectrum in the UK as their policies and statements on immigration and cultural identity are racist and xenophobic.
