Description
A green and white leaflet with an illustration of a sun rise over a field. There is a farmhouse in the background and a pair of sheep grazing in the foreground. Text reads: 'Say NO. Save our farmers. Why Britain's farmers will be better off after we leave the EU' The 'O' in no is a circle of yellow stars like those on the EU flag.
This leaflet was created by the UK Independence Party (UKIP) promoting the Leave campaign for the 2016 EU membership referendum, in which Britain narrowly voted to leave the European Union (EU). UKIP claimed that farmers would economically benefit from leaving the EU, however the opposite has proved to be true.
UKIP is a right wing Eurosceptic political party promoting British nationalism and isolationism. UKIP was founded in 1993, and was one of the first parties to call for Britain to leave the European Union. Their political platform targets the white working class with a focus on restricting immigration, and treating the existence of Muslims in the UK as a problem threatening British society. Their social policies are also against LGBTQIA+ rights, pro capital punishment, and against human rights legislation. UKIP is opposed by anti-fascist groups, and much of the political and media spectrum in the UK as their policies and statements on immigration and cultural identity are racist and xenophobic.
