Description
Early Warning newsletter June edition with the headline "YOUTH ON THE MARCH - Demo in Manchester". Early Warning was a newsletter produced by Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) for Greater Manchester and District branch. There is also a quarter of the page taken up by a notice "STOP TRIDENT FASLANE JULY 23RD".
Faslane Peace Camp has been a continuously occupied peace camp at Faslane Naval base since 1982, run by anti-nuclear campaigners who protest the base housing Trident missiles. The Trident nuclear programme is the UK's nuclear deterrent, and the government describes it as a means to "deter the most extreme threats to our national security and way of life". Anti-nuclear campaigners, like the CND argue that nuclear weapons shouldn't be created or used, and all existing nuclear weapons should be decommissioned and destroyed. Protesting at Faslane has varied in intensity and method over the decades, with blockades and intrusions into the base taking place alongside the camp.
