Description
Peacemaker newsletter, "The newsletter of the Nuclear Free Zone Advisory Committee", first edition. Headlines in columns of text include "Peace materials in libraries", "Chevaline convoy" and "Civil defence regulations". A sticker-style logo reads "Manchester - A Nuclear Free City" with a drawing of a white dove in flight. The back cover includes more text columns and at the bottom, the logo of Manchester City Council, who produced the document.


In 1980, Manchester became the first city to declare itself nuclear-free in response to the political climate in which countries increased their military and nuclear spending. Many other cities and towns followed suit throughout the 1980s.
