"Questions about Trident leaflet" [NMLH.1994.62.8.18]
Description
Tri-fold leaflet titled "Questions and answers about Trident". On the front is animage of a missile rising through clouds with text "Stop Trident" in which the 'O' is a peace sign. In total it answers 21 questions including "How independent will Trident be?", "Won't Trident deter the Soviets?" and "But aren't other countries getting nuclear bombs too?" At the end is a further reading section. It was produced by Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND).
CND is an organisation that campaigns for peace and for governments around the world to demilitarise and discard existing and new nuclear weapons programmes. Trident is the UKâs nuclear weapons programme with the stated purpose of a deterrent, according to the Ministry of Defence. It was established in 1980 and now operates out of a Royal navy base in Clyde on the west coast of Scotland. Anti-nuclear and peace activists have continually protested against Trident since its inception.
