Description
Screenprinted poster, âCompanyâ in yellow on a red rectangle in the centre of the page. The design is on a grid matrix with musicians lifted on each side from guitar, percussion, cello, etc. In a red circle at the top reads âsix concertsâ. At the bottom text in a red circle reads âa season ticket for the week is available from the ICA at £5 members £4â. Another reads âpresented by Albion music with the kind cooperation of the ICA and the Jazz Centre Society with the finance by the Arts Council of Great Britain.â
This poster was made by Paddington Printshop, a community graphic design and print workshop in West London, co-founded by John Phillips and Pippa Smith. Between 1975-1991, the centre printed over 400 designs for left-wing community organisations. These publicised local political campaigns such as housing rights and food co-ops, to social gatherings including play days, gardening clubs, gigs and festivals. Their do-it-yourself style was part of the proto-punk ethos.
