Description
Screenprinted poster, “You, too, can improve your graphic design” in black at the top of a cream poster. The page is printed as if a newspaper ads page with lots of small segments with their own style of graphic design and typesetting. Circled in red at the bottom reads “do the leaflets and posters put out by your organisation look less interesting than the small ads in yesterday's paper? Then why not do something about it? Paddington printshop is running a series of graphic design workshops for people in the voluntary sector. These workshops can help you to cut costs, save time and communicate ideas more effectively.”

This poster was made by Paddington Printshop, a community graphic design and print workshop in West London, co-founded by John Phillips and Pippa Smith. Between 1975-1991, the centre printed over 400 designs for left-wing community organisations. These publicised local political campaigns such as housing rights and food co-ops, to social gatherings including play days, gardening clubs, gigs and festivals. Their do-it-yourself style was part of the proto-punk ethos.
