Description
Screenprinted poster, "Rights and Information Centre" in curving black text around a circle in the top half of the page. The circle is made up of white, black-bordered text reading "Information...Shoppers Rights...Legal Advice...Social Security" in a repeating pattern. Overlaid are overlapping arrows turning in all directions. At the bottom of the circle design is a stickperson with a question mark over their head. At the bottom of the poster is text "Beauchamp Lodge, 2 Warwick Crescent" and a phone number. The background is white.
This poster was made by Paddington Printshop, a community graphic design and print workshop in West London, co-founded by John Phillips and Pippa Smith. Between 1975-1991, the centre printed over 400 designs for left-wing community organisations. These publicised local political campaigns such as housing rights and food co-ops, to social gatherings including play days, gardening clubs, gigs and festivals. Their do-it-yourself style was part of the proto-punk ethos.
