Description
Screenprinted poster, "All Out 26 May" in bold red text along the top. The background is a repeating pattern of white text "Gas & Electricity...Schools & Nurseries...Bus & Rail Services...Unemployment...UP...Food...Cuts...Rents & Rates" on a blue background. Along the bottom in red is a line of silhouettes of people. In the red section is a paragraph in black "May 26 is a Day of Action for all of us against Cuts, Unemployment and Wage Limits. STOP WORK and JOIN IN. Meet at Tower Hill at 1.00pm under the Westminster Trades Council banner. March to Temple via Fleet Street followed by Lobby of Parliament."
This poster was made by Paddington Printshop, a community graphic design and print workshop in West London, co-founded by John Phillips and Pippa Smith. Between 1975-1991, the centre printed over 400 designs for left-wing community organisations. These publicised local political campaigns such as housing rights and food co-ops, to social gatherings including play days, gardening clubs, gigs and festivals. Their do-it-yourself style was part of the proto-punk ethos.
