Enoch Powell was a Conservative politicical serving from 1950 to 1974, and then with the Ulster Unionist Party from 1974 to 1987. In April 1968, Powell delivered the 'Rivers of Blood' speech, in opposition to the Labour Government's introduction of the Race Relations Act. The speech was widely considered to be racist, and Powell was sacked from the shadow cabinet the following day.
