Description
A blue-black cotton velvet sash with metallic detailing. Coiled metallic thread embroidery begins about 100mm from the top, depicting an eye with a series of 15 rays reaching out around it; the pupil of the eye is made in black thread, and the rays are decorated with metal sequins. Below this is another design, a series of balancing weights, one at the top holding two more on each arm.

The text begins here, corded metallic thread embroidery spelling out ‘L.C.T.U’ before another series of designs: two shaking hands, a horse, and a hand holding a whip. Below this is more text: Presented to Bro A. Pawyer for passing // the Chair of No 14 Branch’ with ‘1900’ below, framed by a laurel leaves design. Metallic thread edging lines all outer edges of the sash.

Based on the loose and cut threads seen on the edges of the sash and slight discoloration in these areas, it is likely that a previous edge detailing has been taken off. A circular area of discoloration in the top part of the side seam suggests that an additional metallic detailing has been taken off here as well.
