Description
This collection, from the government Department responsible for employment, reflects the organisation's history from its origins in 1893 as a small branch of the Board of Trade to its present influential position as the Department for Work and Pensions. The collection has been at the museum since 1996 and comprises a wide range of material as these examples illustrate. There are photographs and documents dating from the first labour exchanges, signs, office furniture, posters and employment ephemera. The museum gratefully acknowledges the financial support it receives from the Department for Work and Pensions to maintain this important collection, making it accessible to a wide audience.
