Description
An orange illustation of a face shaped like Australia, with a hand beside it gesturing. The headline reads '£10 takes you to Australia'. There is additional text encouraging migration, and a white tear off strip at the bottom for the reader to post for information about life in Australia.

After World War II, Australia achieved independence from the British Empire and operated a '£10 Assisted Passage Scheme' for Britons to come and work in its developing industries during the 1950s and 1960s. Ten pounds bought emigration papers, a one-way travel ticket by sea, a temporary home on arrival and the chance of employment. Children under nineteen years travelled free.

This information card promised good wages, a safe and healthy environment for children, golden sunshine and golden beaches! In the mid 1960s, approximately 60,000 '£10 Poms' were starting new lives in Australia each year. Other schemes assisted those from Italy, Greece and Malta.
