Description
Irish Transport and General Workers' Union Bass Trombone, before 1919.
The trombone has a leather pouch and was used by the ITGWU Prize Brass and Reed Band. The band formed in 1919 and most members were carters from the docklands in Dublin. Established by Thomas Foran, the then-leader of the ITGWU, the band regularly took part in trade union activities such as marches and pickets. The band were active until the late 20th century and this trombone entered the museum's collection in 1991.
