Trident is the UK’s nuclear weapons programme with the stated purpose of a deterrent, according to the Ministry of Defence. It was established in 1980 and now operates out of a Royal Navy base in Clyde on the west coast of Scotland. Anti-nuclear and peace activists have continually protested against Trident since its inception.
