Description
A poster featuring a monochrome photograph of Harold Wilson with a pipe in his mouth. Harold Wilson was the British Prime Minister in the years 1974-1976, for a Labour government. A quote of his is underneath th photograph: "I always include the Sunday Citizen in my Sunday reaqding... Its consistent loyalty to our great cause can be rewarded quite simply and effectively- BY ALL OF US BUYING THE SUNDAY CITIZEN REGULARLY AND PERSUADING OUR FRIENDS TO DO THE SAME..." Underneath the words "SUNDAY CITIZEN" are printed in white text against a red background.

The Sunday Citizen was a newspaper originally founded under the name "Reynolds's Weekly Newspaper", created by the radical journalist George William MacArthur Reynolds in May 1850. It soon became a very successful Sunday newspaper, especially in the North of England, with a radical working class approach combined with sensationalism. The paper was later acquired by the National Co-operative Press on behalf of the Labour Party. It ceased publication in 1967, by which time it was known as "Sunday Citizen".
