Description
Oval blue and white metal badge with gold inscription "Fleet Street Wapping 1702-1986" and an image of Fleet Street. This badge was created to signify the historical shift of the British newspaper industry. The first British daily newspaper was printed on Fleet Street in 1702, while the Wapping Dispute in 1986 marked the end of its dominance as the centre of the British press.
The Wapping dispute was a dispute between print worker unions and Rupert Murdoch, owner of News International Group, after production of newspapers was moved to a new factory in Wapping in 1986.
