Description
This hanging was presented to Mr and Mrs H Hutchins in 1972 when Mr Hutchins collection about the Paris Commune was on exhibition in China.

The painting, "Wall of the Communards", of the cemetery of Pere Lachaise in Paris is by Shea Yu.

In March 1871 a Commune was elected by universal male suffrage to run Paris. Its aim was to preserve the French republic against the monarchists. The Commune was suppressed by the army under Marshal MacMahon.
