Description
This banner dates from between 1920, the year the Communist Party of Great Britain was founded, and 1943, the year the Communist Party Central Committee changed to the Executive Committee. The name change was an attempt to anglicize the Party's Russian-sounding structure.

The banner was carried at special occasions, such as General Secretary Harry Pollitt's funeral procession in 1960. It is decorated with the Scottish thistle and the Welsh daffodil. England is represented by the oak, which was probably regarded as more symbolic of working people than the traditional English rose. The banner was made using crimson cotton sateen with applied decoration of synthetic fabrics.
