Description
The Railway Women's Guild is best known for its organising of social events and fund-raising activities for the Orphans' Fund. But it also played an important political role. In 1905-06 Railway Women's Guild members were instrumental in the foundation of the Women's Labour League.

Guild members were also to the fore when warfare brought women's labour into great demand. By 1915 the NUR was enrolling female members; both the First and the Second World War saw large numbers of women working on the railways.

Here the Perth banner combines both the Guild and trade unionism with its traditional trade slogan "Unity is Strength".

Materials: cotton velvet ground with cotton embroidery.
