Description
This N.U.R. banner is slightly unusual in that the two cameos here depict the manufacture of the locomotive as distinct from the passenger and service side of the industry that the union took much pride in.

The railwaymen played an important part in setting up the Labour Party's founding body, the Labour Representation Committee, in 1900.

This banner was manufactured by G. Tutill, the banner making firm, in City Road, London. This firm made the vast majority of UK trade union and related banners up to World War II.

Materials: Banner of single layer fabric, comprising ground of blue plain woven silk, hand painted on each side with oil-based medium, and red polyester rep borders. The borders and fringe are restorations made during the working life of the banner and have replaced the original silk components.
