Description
The Ancient Order of Foresters was one of the many friendly societies which were important in the lives of many working class people. They offered their members saving schemes and insurance for sickness and old age. The welfare state later took over some of their functions.

This banner is believed to have been carried in the Foresters' parades in the late 19th century, and was last seen in public in the early 1950's.

Materials: Banner of a single layer Jacquered woven silk in crimson and pale green, with oil-based medium hand painted images on each side.
