This poster was produced around the time that then-Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher brought in Section 28, a law that made it illegal to 'promote homosexuality' in all local government funded spaces including schools, hospitals, libraries, media, etc. The result of this law was an increase in hate crime, and isolating LGBTQIA+ people from their communities, as well as reducing access to safer sex education during the HIV and AIDS crisis.

Section 28 was introduced in 1988, and wasn't repealed in England and Wales until 2003.
