Description
A red banner with gold fringing. Yellow text says 'Home Work. Real Work. Equal Work' at the top and 'National Group on Homeworking' at the bottom. The banner has the National Group on Homeworking logo in yellow and green letters in the centre, flanked by two images - one of people of all races holding and surrounded by cardboard boxes; the other of an urban street.

The National Group on Homeworking campaign was established to secure equal treatment for home workers on a par with onsite workers; home workers are rarely unionised, and often have fewer work related rights. This banner was designed for use at Trade Union events to increase awareness of home working within the trade union and labour movements. The slogan on the banner, "Home Work, Real Work, Equal Work" emphasises that work done at home is of equal value, and that home workers deserve equal rights and respect. It also references the fact that a lot of home-based work, such as needlework or weaving, has not been seen as 'real work' and so consideration has not been given to homeworkers rights on the same basis as traditional industry or office workers.

Homebased work has traditionally been dominated by women, who have worked low-paid jobs for a cash income, often while caring for children or relatives. Homework has changed in the last century, however, with more work being based on IT technology and sales.
