A green banner with the text: 'Church Of England Temperance Society. Band Of Hope Competition Awarded To St. Paul's Southport By The Liverpool Diocesan.'

Band of Hope was a part of the Temperance Movement, discouraging young people from drinking alcohol. It was particularly focused on attracting members from the working class, as middle and upper class Victorian attitudes held that working class people were more prone to drunkeness, and less capable of moderate behaviour.
