Description
This union is believed to have been known as the Scottish United Operative Blacksmiths Protection and Friendly Society in 1857. This name was changed in 1872 to the Associated Blacksmiths of Scotland, then again in 1885 to the Associated Blacksmiths Society. By the 1890s it was known as the Associated Blacksmiths of Scotland, but by 1911 it had become the Associated Blacksmiths and Iron Workers Society, with a membership of 3,253. At this point it was registered to an office in Glasgow. By 1915 membership had risen to 13,534. In 1923 it was known as the Associated Blacksmiths Forge and Smithy Workers Society and had a membership of 12,459.

This badge was originally donated to the collection under the erroneous title of "Amalgamated Society of Blacksmiths' Forge and Smithy Workers" badge.
