Description
The Edge Tool Trade Society was formed in 1890 under the titel Amalgamated Edge Tool Trade, Protection and Death Society of Birmingham and District. It gradually absorbed smaller, specific societies such as the Awl Blade Makers Association and the Brace Bit Makers Society. In 1910 membership was 280 in 3 branches. It became the Edge Tool Trade Society in 1920. In 1946 the union merged with the National Union of General and Municipal Workers.
