Description
The National Society of Amalgamated Metal Wire and Tube Workers was formed in 1896 with 1,500 members. Membership grew to 1,645 in 1899, but subsequently dropped to 780 in 1903. Membership fluctuated again from 1,292 in 1906 to 350 in 1910. By 1946 membership had dwindled to 139. Membership continued to drop, recording 100 in 1949. The union ceased to exist in 1950 without amalgamation with any other unions.
