Description
In 1908 Herbert Asquith became Liberal Prime Minister. Asquith was unpopular with the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies (1887) and the Women's Social and Political Union (1903) because he opposed women's right to vote.

During the 1910 General Election Asquith declared that, if he were re-elected, he would allow women with property the right to vote. In 1911 Asquith back-pedalled and unveiled legislation to give all men the vote but keep women disenfranchised. The WSPU began a window breaking campaign and attacked Asquith's house.

It was not until 1928 that all women over the age of 21 won the right to vote.
