Conscientious Objectors

After conscription was introduced in 1916, some workers refused to undertake military service. Some were socialists and others had strong religious principles. About 6,000 were imprisoned. These objects, including a sketchbook of Dartmoor Prison, came from William Holman of Norwich. Conscientious objectors were deprived of the right to vote after the war.
