Description
Harold Wilson (1916-95) donated this pipe to the National Museum of Labour History (now known as the People's History Museum) when the museum was based in London.

Wilson was the leader of the Labour Party from 1963 until his resignation in 1976. He won four general elections as Labour leader and is the Party's longest serving Prime Minister. The pipe may well have contributed to the seemingly trustworthy and reliable image of Harold Wilson.

Many of the Wilson government's actions have been far reaching such as the foundation of the Open University, liberalising laws affecting homosexuals, the ending of capital punishment and ensuring Britain's membership of the European Economic Community (now the European Union) through a national referendum.
