Description
Round black, red and white metal badge with gold inscription "NATIONAL N.U.M." On each side is a figure of a miner holding a pickaxe and a miner's lamp. In the centre is a red crest with mining equipment in each of the four sections.
This badge was created for National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), founded in 1945, which organised strikes in major national miners' strikes throughout the 20th century, before becoming a much smaller union following the closure of most of Britain's coal mines.
