Plate reads:
"Miners Strike 1984-85. The epic struggle of Britain's mineworkers and their families in 1984, takes its proud place in the long history of the fight for freedom and security. Men died on the picket line, hundreds were injured in police charges attempting to drive a clear path for strikebreakers, thousands were arrested, but nothing could break the massive solidarity of the miners. Throughout the country, workers in many industries gave it their unstinting support. In the high steets and market places collection of food helped sustain mineworkers' families. Millions became aware that the miners were in the forefront of the struggle to safeguard the rights and living standards of all working people. The unity and solidarity created in the 1984 struggle shines like a beacon lighting the way to a more just society."
