Description
This poster was produced by the Aid for Spain campaign during the Spanish Civil War (1936-39). Many people in the British labour movement supported the Republican forces fighting against Franco in Spain. While around 2000 Britons volunteered to fight in the International Brigades against fascism, others raised funds for humanitarian supplies.
The National Joint Committee for Spanish Relief was set up and chaired by the Conservative MP, the Duchess of Atholl. This committee was supported by local Aid for Spain committees across Britain, which sent food ships and medical supplies to Spain.
