Spanish Civil War poster, around 1936
This poster was created by the Subsecretaria de Propaganda, who were responsible for creating propaganda posters for the Republican Government in Spain during the Spanish Civil War. The poster shows two photographs side by side, separated by a bayonet atop a rifle. The lefthnad photograph shows workers collecting a harvest from a tree under the watch of a Guardia Civil with his characteristic uniform hat, the tricornio. The righthand image shows two workers in a factory.
Underneath the image is a band of writing on a red background, reading to the left "Para Aumentar Las Horas De Trabajoy Disminur Los Salarios; Para Someter Al Obrero A Una Explotacion Inicua Se Alzaron Los Generales Contra El Resultado de las Execiones del 16 Febrero" (Translated: To increase the labour hours and cut off wages; to bend the workers into exploitation the army generals took arms up against the results of the election of February 16th) and to the right "Para Que el Trabajo Sea Una Alegria: Para Oue el Obrero y Sus Hijos Tengan Asequrado un Porvenir de Bienestrar. Lucha Nuestro Ejercito y se Afana Nuestra Retaguardia" (Translation: For the labour be a blessing: for the workers and sons to have a better future. Healthcare. Fight in our army and improve our backfront.)
