Description
An 1811 political satire cartoon of a rat catcher in shabby clothes being canvassed by a well dressed parliamentary candidate.

The parliamentary candidate is flattering the rat catcher and intends to take him to an inn in the background of the painting to win his vote by plying him with alcohol. The rat catcher's dogs sniff the candidate distrustfully, as if they smell a rat. The cartoon is implying that political candidates cannot be trusted.
