Description
This scene shows The Royal Oak, the headquarters of the Tory campaign. A new sign has been hung outside the pub. It reads Punch Candidate For Guzzledown and shows a man throwing money to passers-by. The character Mr Punch was a well-known symbol of Whig corruption. In the middle ground you can see the crowd outside the window of the Whig headquarters. Bribes are being offered by both sides to the farmer wearing a large hat in the centre of the scene. A Tory agent is trying to attract two women at a first floor window with trinkets he is buying from a Jewish peddlar.
