Description
Firefighters went on strike in late 2002/ early 2003 in order to secure a better salary. Weeks of negotiations between the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) and negotiators for the local authority employers were fruitless until in June 2003 an agreement was reached with a pay deal of a 16% rise over three years. This cap was given to the chaplain of Warrington for his support during the strike. The chaplain then donated the cap to the museum in 2016. It reads:
"Fair Pay for the Fire Service"
