Description
Friendly Society Memorabilia collected by Peter Gosden of the University of Leeds. Gosden was the author of 'The Friendly Societies in England, 1815-1875' (Manchester University Press, 1961) and 'Self Help- Voluntary Associations in Nineteenth Century Britain' (Studies in Economic and Socieal History, 1973). The collection was presented to the museum in March 2016.
Jug reads; 'May every brother have a heart to feel, and a hand to give'. 'Here's to the Order that bears one anothers burdens with cheerfullness'.
