Description
Postcard depicting a black and white design of woman and man with the caption ‘Is this right?’ It is raining. The man has an umbrella labelled 'franchise' - the woman has no umbrella and questions why she cannot have one. The man argues she should be at home, but the woman points out 'I have my living to earn.'

The postcard was printed and published by the Artists’ Suffrage League, Chelsea, London. The argument that women did not need the right to vote as they should be more concerned with their domestic life was challenged by women who worked outside the home during the push for womens' suffrage.

After years of campaigning, women over 30 won the right to vote in 1918. All adults over 21 (then the age of majority) became eligable to vote, irrespective of gender, in 1928.
