Misogynistic portrayals of suffragettes as animals, particularly ones with common reputations as ill tempered, proliferated during the campaign for womens' suffrage. This postcard has correspondence on the reverse which makes it clear it was used, and the adressee is a woman. It is unclear if this is because she opposed or was in favour of votes for women.
