Description
Embroidered banner with the header 'Men's Co-operative Guild Hove Branch'. The embroidery depicts a farmer looking at the sky which has the word 'Famine', 'War', 'Unemployment', and, in the centre of a rising sun, 'International Co-operation'.
Men's Co-operative Guilds were established around the United Kingdom in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries, and were closely linked to Co-operative societies. In 1911, the National Co-operative Men's Guild was formed to support the branches under the supervision of the Central Education Committee. The Hove branch joined the National Co-operative Men's Guild in 1934.
