General Election campaign leaflet for Ellen Wilkinson, 1945
Ellen Wilkinson was a long standing member of the Labour Party, and had previously been elected MP to Middlesbrough between 1924 and 1931, and Jarrow from 1935. In 1936 she supported marches walking from Jarrow to London to raise awareness of the poverty of the area, caused largely by the decline of shipbuilding in the area. She successfully retained her seat in the 1945 General Election, and was made Minister of Education.
