Description
White poster with black text reading: 'Britain and U.S.A must end the Cold War Talk with Russia Bring China into U.N.O', 1961-1971.
This poster was made at some point during the Cold War, a period of geopolitical tension between the USA and the Soviet Union which also spread to allied states- known as the Eastern bloc (also known as the Communist/socialist/Soviet bloc) and the Western bloc (also known as the Free/capitalist/American bloc). The Cold War era began in the latter half of the 1940's and lasted until the late 1980's/early 1990's. During this time, missiles were being developed by both sides that could be used to launch nuclear attacks. This was met with a lot of resistance as the effects of nuclear war would be deadly; the Communist Party and other organisations in what came to be seen as the Peace Movement often campaigned for the UK to take a stand against the development and deployment of nuclear weapons, within its borders and also more generally. This poster urges the UK government to negotiate with the US and the USSR in order to end the Cold War, including bringing the People's Republic of China
into the United Nations in order to have more representation from Communist governments.
This poster was distributed by the Communist Party of Great Britain and printed by Publicity Printing.
