Description
Poster depicting a nuclear explosion with text that reads 'Atoms / For war? / For peace? / Your choice!', around 1960. This poster was made at some point during the Cold War, a period of geopolitical tension between the USA and the Soviet Union which also spread to allied states- known as the Eastern bloc (also known as the Communist/socialist/Soviet bloc) and the Western bloc (also known as the Free/capitalist/American bloc). The Cold War era began in the latter half of the 1940's and lasted until the late 1980's/early 1990's. During this time, missiles were being developed by both sides that could be used to launch nuclear attacks. This was met with a lot of resistance as the effects of nuclear war would be deadly; the Communist Party and other organisations in what came to be seen as the Peace Movement often campaigned for the UK to take a stand against the
development and deployment of nuclear weapons, within its borders and also more generally. The poster features a background of a mushroom cloud explosion, a missile, and an arms factory, over which the text is written. Condition: fair- slightly yellowed, tears and creases along the corners and edges.
